sulphur, sicily

Sulphur

Agrigento, Sicily

Acquired 1974. Sharp, lustrous crystal, 4cm across, on aragonite. This is a genuine specimen, not one of the many manufactured pieces that are flooding the market these days. We think it was probably collected in the late 1800's - certainly the slight 'grubbiness' of the aragonite matrix, and 'aged' look of the crystal bear this out. Purchased at the old Sothebys Mineral auctions in London in about 1975. Size: 8 x 5 cm.
